Liza Zayas

Meet Liza Zayas. Liza grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts surrounded by rap and freestyle music. At home, her parents introduced to her native land’s rhythms, Salsa Music. At age 13, she discovered something like House on the FM dial of her radio one late Friday night. She also started frequenting under 21 clubs and would hear a couple of those same 'popular' records. Uninspired by the music around her, she found herself only and truly feeling music when it was that "House" sound she searched for. Friends of hers knew that she only dug House and would give her mixed tapes from New York DJs. Locally, DJ House was the man to know if you wanted mixed tapes. Her and DJ House bonded naturally and spent every weekend for years listening to records, going to clubs and parties and learning as much as possible about House: its origins, producers, vocalists, labels, venues and parties. In Homage, they would hold House parties in Lawrence.

The first record Liza bought was French Kiss. The first record that inspired Liza to write was Sueno Latino. The remaining vocalist that inspires Liza to write songs is India. Liza considers herself a (LL) Vega Junkie.

Liza swears to Love House Music because of the way it makes her feel. With and through House, she dances freely, sings songs that are true to her heart and is inspired by the talent of House's producers, vocalists and Children. Not to call them favorites, but Liza lives for deep, tribal, Latin, jazzy, vocals, expressive and zoned-out records. She appreciates knowledgeable DJs that care about the music and program a journey for the floor from the decks.

Some 15 years later, Liza is still supporting House, is still a backpacker, dj, songwriter, spoken word artist, writer and poet, promoter, and most importantly to her, she still gets to Dance her Ass off! She credits her discovery of the House Music Culture from its roots into its evolution for her creative expressions and Glee. Liza Loves House!
